24 Hours A Big Hit For Wellingtonians
A surge in interest has led to an increase in the number of photographers participating in the 24 Hours in Wellington photo shoot. The 24 Hours event will take place over September 20 and 21, and will capture on film a complete day in the life of Wellington and Wellingtonians.
More than 70 photographers have now applied for the original 50 places, and Graham Blow, project leader for 24 Hours in Wellington, said the decision to add more places was easy.
"24 Hours is about capturing Wellingtonians at work and at play, and with more photographers we are better able to capture a representative slice of life across the city."
In the 24 hours from 4 pm September 20 more than 10,000 images of the city are expected to be taken.
Put together with major support from FujiFilm, Wellington Photographic Supplies and Ricoh Image Communication, the event will see photographers now covering a greater number of locations around the city.
"With more photographers, we can increase the number of assignments to more than 200, making this 24 Hours in Wellington twice as large as the last time the event was held in 1999" said Mr Blow.
One purpose of the event is to share the images of Wellington with all Wellingtonians. A double-page spread of photos will appear in The Dominion Post on Thursday, 26 September and an exhibition of the 50 best images will open at the WestpacTrust St James theatre on Friday, 27 September. More than 150 images will also be placed on the world wide web, so that they can be viewed both nationally and internationally.
