Annual Plan Delivers To All Parts Of City

24 June 2002

Hutt City’s Annual Plan 2002/03 includes a number of initiatives put up by councillors and residents during the consultation process, said Mayor John Terris.

“I think when people look at the Annual Plan they will see that Council does listen to the wishes of the community and that, if they are prepared to develop a sound case for spending on particular projects, we will support them,” said Mayor Terris.

“I would also stress that, for the first time, Hutt City Council has set out its spending priorities for the next three years, so people can see that, although their project may not have received money this year, it may be in line for inclusion in years two or three.”

“However, we have a very limited amount of money to spend, so councillors must weigh up the relative merits of each project and make decisions accordingly. Sometimes those decisions are not popular but we have a duty to maintain fiscal discipline while recognising the need to invest in the future needs of all residents.”

Project list:

Eastern Ward

Signage for Naenae shopping centre $25,000

Naenae pool new equipment and skylights $37,000

Norrie Gr sewer renewal $25,000

The Eastern Ward will also significantly benefit from the $150,000 additional funding put into residential street lighting. The NRB Communitrak survey 2002 showed there was a high level of dissatisfaction (17% dissatisfied) with street lighting.
