New library charges for non-residents
Out-of-towners will get a better deal under a new borrowers’ scheme at Auckland City libraries.
The joining fee for non-residents still stands at $120 per annum, but the subscriber’s family members can now join up for $20 instead of $120 previously.
People who want only a few books each year have the option of paying $20 per annum and $2 per book after that.
The council’s chairperson of the Community Services committee, Graeme Mulholland, says people will have more choices for borrowing library items.
“This initiative is in response to a need we saw from customers – they often tell us what they want, and this pay-as-you-go scheme is one way we can give them more choices,” he said.
The joining fee for Auckland City residents is still covered by the annual rates they pay and the new charges apply only for people who live outside the city’s boundaries.
