Volunteering Workshop For Hutt City Community Groups
Hutt City Council has organised a one-day Volunteering Workshop to provide advice to the many community groups in Hutt City who struggle each year to find enough volunteers to run their services.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday 26 June from 9am to 3.30 pm at the Petone Baptist Centre, 38 Buick Street, Petone, Lower Hutt. The cost is $30 but people who register before 14 June they will receive a $10 discount.
"The greatest, and most valuable, resource of any organisation is its people," said Whiti Taite, Hutt City Community Development Officer.
"The contribution of volunteers to Hutt City is huge and many groups would not be able to function, even exist, without them."
"Community groups must be professional in the way they attract and manage volunteers, especially if they want their volunteers to stay. These processes may seem daunting when you also have to consider legislative requirements, training and support."
"All the while, work at the coalface must continue in an efficient and effective manner.
At the workshop participants can expect to examine a wide range of strategies for recruiting, retaining and rewarding volunteers. Attention will be paid to dealing constructively with 'problem volunteers'.
There will also be an emphasis on active involvement of group members and practices that are relevant to participant's circumstances.
