Auckland City wants the community to contribute ideas on the future of Newmarket.
A public launch called “Newmarket’s Future – Developing a Framework” will explain how the public can be involved in the
process.
Councillor Juliet Yates, chairperson of the City Development Committee says, ”Newmarket is a successful, dynamic town
centre experiencing growth pressures.”
“It is important that a comprehensive framework for managing the future of Newmarket is developed with council working
together with the community. The framework will seek to integrate landuse and transport issues and identify where
council and the community wish to focus future capital works improvements.
“The community must be part of the process for it to work.”
The community launch starts the community consultation phase of the project which will be followed by a design
investigation programme and from that a number of Newmarket scenarios for future pathways will be developed.
The public will have an opportunity to view the scenario documents and make comments.
Councillor Yates said the recommendations from this intensive investigation and consultation project would be reported
to the City Development Committee for review and a decision on future steps to be taken.
The community launch will be held on May 28, in the Hobson Room, Parnell Community Centre, starting 7pm.
