Petone Water Supply
Petone residents can look forward to improved water quality when its artesian water supply is restored at the end of June, said Hutt City water supply manager Gary O'Meara.
"The completion of the $1million contract to reline the Wellington Regional Council's bulk water main along the Petone Esplanade would result in improved water quality when the artesian water supply was resumed at the end of this month," said Gary O'Meara.
Petone has been supplied with a mix of artesian and chlorinated, fluoridated water from the Wainuiomata treatment plant since the contract commenced in late January.
The contract to reline the WRC's bulk water main was originally scheduled for completion at the end of April but difficulties were experienced in installing the lining.
The difficulties have now been overcome and the contract is scheduled for completion in late June.
"There were some initial concerns expressed by Petone residents over the temporary supply of chlorinated, fluoridated, water but generally residents have appreciated that they will end up with better quality water once this project has been completed."
