The Mayor of Manukau, Sir Barry Curtis, as settlor has appointed six new trustees to the City of Manukau Education Trust
(COMET).
Anita Finnigan, Mary Elizabeth Sharp, George Ngatai, Bill Gavin, Gillian Trotman and Denise Ewe join six other
continuing trustees for the next three year term.
The City of Manukau Education Trust has five areas of focus including: linking schools and business to improve the
transition of students into the workforce; improving literacy and numeracy skills in the community; supporting early
childhood services; enhancing lifelong learning opportunities; and advocating for quality education delivery and
community initiatives such as homework centres.
Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says that the calibre of the nominations was extremely pleasing. “We’ve selected an excellent
group of enthusiastic people to further drive forward the work of COMET. These people all have a passion for improving
the education and training experience of the people of Manukau.
“In appointing trustees the Mayor ensures there are representatives of the different cultural groups that make up the
Manukau community, and that there is a good mix of expertise, skills and experience across the trust.
“Several other members are retiring and I wish to thank them all for their service over the past three years. Much has
been achieved in the City in that time.”
