Residents and businesses have a chance to comment on the future of Manukau’s City Centre now that a draft concept plan
has been released for consultation.
The draft concept plan provides a vision of how the City Centre could accommodate a greater number of residents in the
future. The current resident population is estimated at only 141.
It also looks at new opportunities for business development centred around core civic functions and the Manukau Square.
An ‘open night’ will be held on Thursday 2 May 2002, 6.30pm onwards to view and discuss details within the plan.
Project Leader Chris Smith says this is the perfect opportunity to enhance the City Centre as a major gathering place
for the residents..
“ At the moment the centre tends to close down as businesses close their doors. Having people working, living, studying
and attending leisure activities within the centre will help to ensure the City Centre is successful,” says Mr Smith
Mr Smith says revitalising the City includes the potential for new residential development, creating a mainstreet and
revitalising the Square, introducing the new Manukau rail link and station, and providing for an educational facility
amongst other things.
Submission forms and more information on the Draft Concept Plan can be obtained from the Citizen and Customer Centre,
Kotuku House, Manukau Square or by visiting Council’s website www.manukau.govt.nz. Submissions on the Draft Concept Plan
can be made until Friday 20 May 2002.
