“Access to effective public transport information is critical as more and more people choose to consider alternatives to
car travel,” said ARC Councillor Catherine Harland, Chairwoman Passenger Transport Committee, this week, with the ARC’s
relocation of bus, train and ferry information to a new downtown location at the Harbour Information Centre.
With construction of the Britomart building well underway, the current location of public transport information at the
Central Post Office (CPO) in QEII Square is scheduled to close temporarily for renovations.
Previously, Auckland City Council had played a valuable role in ensuring public access to regional travel information
through its information booth inside the CPO. With closure of the building imminent, the ARC and the Harbour Information
Centre have been working together to secure a suitable new location to ensure the ongoing availability of public
transport information for Aucklanders and tourists alike.
“As the provision of bus, train and ferry services – and patronage - throughout the region continues to grow, access to
good timetables and associated information to help trip planning easy is important,” says Cr. Harland.
“Rideline offers people a quick and simple means of gaining information by telephone, the website or by text messaging
but it is also vital in the busy downtown area that people can visit a 'one stop shop'."
The Harbour Information Centre is keen to further increase its current service to include a comprehensive base of travel
planning information and is also able to provide valuable advice to customers through its knowledgeable support staff.
The Harbour Information Centre situated at the Ferry Building, 99 Quay Street, is set to assist people with their travel
queries from Friday April 5th. The centre is currently open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 8pm, subject to demand.
