FROM : Growing Community in association with Campaign for a Better City, Bypass Action and the Wellington Rainforest
Action Group.
The newly formed Wellington group committed to creating community gardens around the city and the region, Growing
Community, have planned their third garden creation event Park Up III.
The third garden is to be created on Buller Street (near the motorway tunnel entrance) this Sunday March the 10th.
"The garden is to provide access for pedestrians travelling into town where they can pause and take a breather or
collect some fresh fruit and veges for their lunch. It can also become a gathering point for residents in the
neighbourhood to meet and do some gardening or just sit and chat." says member Emily Bailey. The garden is cited on the
proposed Bypass route where two houses 'burnt down' last year.
"The Park Up I and II gardens are also cited on the Bypass route and were done so to demonstrate the amount of land
presently being wasted while Transit attempts to get the go-ahead for its 'dream motorway'.
" People are invited to come along this Sunday to help create the garden which will be a mixture of native plantings and
fruit and vege plots. The garden will be open to the public to use as they wish with respect to all other users, so it
will be up to the people to create it and maintain it. Private vege plots are possible if a sign is erected with your
name on it. Meet halfway down Buller Street after 1pm and feel free to bring along plants and landscaping materials that
you wish to donate.
