Committee Gives Green Light To Pensioner Units

Auckland City Council is to build 72 units at its New Windsor Road pensioner housing complex.
The council’s Community Services committee today agreed to go ahead with the project, which was originally planned during the term of the last council.
Committee Chairman Graeme Mulholland says, “All the way through this process the council has made a commitment to look after the existing tenants’ needs and this commitment was made to tenants 10 months ago. Even though the council has changed its direction, we’re still committed to the project.”
Tenders will go out on Monday for development of the site. This includes renewing the access and all other services, as well as building the 72 units. Work could start in about two months.
Cr Mulholland says the project has the full backing of the tenants, some of whom have been temporarily relocated to other accommodation.
He says all the tenants expect to return to new units on the New Windsor Road site and the council has made firm commitments to this end.
