Catch up with the WPG at Grey Lynn Park Festival Sat 24 November!
Grey Lynn Park Festival Saturday 24 November Opens from 10.00am
The Water Pressure Group will be in the 'Eco Park' area with the GE Free stalls (The top field Elgin St/Grosvenor St)
If you have any garage sale items which could be sold, bring them along on the day. Before 10.00am would be great.
The Water Pressure Group (Auckland) will be at Grey Lynn Park Festival with our fire engine, Rita and Peter the meters - showing the community how to unrestrict water meters if Metrowater have been foolish enough to 'tamper' with them!
We will be encouraging as many people as possible to join the water bill boycott, to give the politicians a message they can't ignore! There will be information for people who want to know more about us, and we will take the names of those who want to become actively involved to help get the message out to our communities and build our campaign at street level.
We in the Water Pressure Group, are helping to build civil society, organised at street level - independently of politicians and political parties - to defend what remains of our 'public' property and 'democratic rights'. As ordinary people, we know from experience - you only get what you fight for and you have to fight to keep it and we are a group 'has a go'!!
The Water Pressure Group are playing a very important role in the fight for 'democracy'.
1) The battle at 10 Warnock St Grey Lynn over freedom of expression - the right of citizens to expose politicians who have broken their promises by putting up signs which say so - has implications for the rest of NZ. We do not accept that a Council Bylaw should be used to carry out political censorship. Come and find out more!
2) The challenge to the Auckland Local Body Elections is over politicians misrepresenting their policies to the voting public in order to get elected. We are doing this to expose that the our system of 'electoral democracy' is a facade behind which the discredited pro- privatisation agenda of the NZ Business Roundtable and the New Right continues unabated. Those who represent the interests of big business and the very wealthy can't tell the public the truth about their real agenda or they would never get elected. However, if the public can't cast an informed vote because the information upon which they are basing their vote is a lie because the policy has been misrepresented - THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE WHOLE ELECTION EXERCISE?? What a total farce! Democracy for whom?
People who wanted guidance from the candidates 'profile' statements may as well have read a Mickey Mouse comic.
It appears no one (at least at Local Government level) has ever made such a challenge before! Come and find out more! 3) Challenging the Anti-Terrorism Bill. Along with other groups the WPG challenged the Labour Alliance Coaltion Government to reveal the amendments to this Bill and allow the public time to make public submissions.
We hope to catch up with you on Saturday!
Cheers!
