Something Old, Something New – La Corsa

Published: Tue 13 Nov 2001 11:59 AM
Manukau City Council’s arts programme continues this Sunday (18 November) with a concert by La Corsa, titled Something Old, Something New.
Beginning at 2pm, the free concert will be held at the Manurewa Community Arts Centre (Nathan Homestead).
La Corsa, with soprano Fiona Ferens, oboist Stanley Jackson and pianist Kay Shacklock, presents a collection of songs based on every day French life. The set contains wonderful contrasts of pathos and delicious humour. These three lively professional musicians thrive on the challenges new music brings and enjoy performing chamber works from earlier times.
Council’s Arts Programmer, Pat Kadarmia, says that all the pieces will be introduced in an interesting manner and will include information on the songs and the instruments. “Don’t forget to ask the group how they came to name their trio!” says Pat.
La Corsa will seduce you with a rarely heard vocal and instrumental combination. Their clarity of texture will calm and dissipate the stresses of the new millennium. Relax and enjoy!
