DEPUTY MAYOR ANNOUNCED
Councillor Ray Wallace an Independent councillor from Wainuiomata was unanimously elected Hutt City's new deputy Mayor
at its meeting last night.
Mayor Terris said Cr Wallace had earned the position of deputy mayor through his hard work on council committees and
dedication in promoting the interests of the citizens of Hutt City.
"Ray Wallace has been an enthusiastic participant in and positive influence on the work of Council and I am sure he will
make the step up into his new role," said Mayor Terris.
"This was an appointment based on merit."
Cr Wallace was elected to a third term in the recent local authority elections. He was Chairman of the Community
Services Committee (which became the Operations & Compliance Committee in the last triennium).
"I am extremely honoured to receive the unanimous support of my colleagues and will work hard to represent the interests
of the citizens of Wainuiomata and Hutt City," said Deputy Mayor Wallace.
As committee chair he took a keen interest in issues such as the Petone Foreshore Upgrade and has actively supported
libraries, parks and pools.
"I was pleased to have played a role in the establishment of Youth Infusion, and supported changes to Standing Orders
which allowed that organisation speaking rights at Council meetings."
