"Access to road safety activities and information in the Auckland region has been improved with the establishment of a dedicated web site developed by inter-agency road safety group, RoadSafe Auckland," says Auckland Regional Council Regional Land Transport Committee Chairman, Cr. Les Paterson.
Cr. Les Paterson, says that "the dedicated road safety site builds on RoadSafe Auckland's experience of having campaign pages on the Auckland Regional Council's web site (www.arc.govt.nz) and more recently, the www.dyingrace.org.nz web site as part of the summer open road speed campaign. The number of hits and requests for further road safety information from the Auckland Regional Council and Dying Race web sites suggests that people are keen to use the internet to obtain road safety information."
Peter Kippenberger, Regional Manager for the Land Transport Safety Authority welcomes the web site as a means for people to access local, national and international road safety information. "The site brings together a lot of information on road safety issues in the Auckland region and will be added to as new community projects are developed. A key feature is an outline of RoadSafe Auckland's key priority areas and links to relevant sites to assist people seeking information on issues such as drink driving, speed, and pedestrian safety to name a few," says Peter Kippenberger.
A major section of the www.roadsafeauckland.org.nz web site relates to corporate safety culture where large organisations can complete a checklist to determine areas for further strengthening their road safety activity as a means to improving their bottom line. "Occupational driving is an under-estimated occupational health and safety issue in New Zealand with many occupations that include work related driving having substantial lost time injuries through crashes," says Peter Kippenberger.
The web site provides an overview of RoadSafe Auckland activities and contacts, links to related road safety web sites, information and resources relating to specific campaigns/projects, and application forms to the Small Project Fund.
RoadSafe Auckland is a region wide road safety group made up of representatives from Auckland's seven Territorial Local Authorities, Regional Council, Land Transport Safety Authority (LTSA), NZ Police, Transit New Zealand, ACC, Auckland Healthcare, Alcohol Advisory Council (ALAC), Safekids and the Ministry of Health.
