Auckland’s Pacific peoples are invited to have their say in how Auckland City will be run in 2001/02.
Two Pacific Peoples’ Forums are planned for the next fortnight at which Auckland City’s Draft Annual Plan will be
discussed. The document released annually by the Council is called a draft, because before putting the plan into action,
the Council wants to hear what the residents and ratepayers of the city think of it.
The Council is committed to building strong links with Pacific Island communities and the purpose of the forums is to
receive and submit feedback on the plan.
Among other things, the Draft Annual Plan recommends a rates increase of three per cent, in line with inflation; a $50
million commitment to an indoor arena; a $67 million contribution to a new transport interchange and a new waste
management system for the city, with smaller bins, but more recycling.
Two forums are planned. The first will be on Monday, May 7 at Edendale School Hall in Sandringham Rd from 7pm to 9pm.
The second will be on Thursday, May 17 at the Glen Innes Community Centre in Line Rd, also between 7pm and 9pm.
All Pacific people are welcome and bi-lingual facilitators from the language groups of Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands and
Nuie will be available throughout the forums to assist with understanding. Refreshments will be served at the end of the
presentations.
