Christchurch City Council has just received the first draft of the report from Australian consultants on options for a
redevelopment of the Lyttelton Marina incorporating public facilities.
Time is now needed for the report to be evaluated and the consultants have requested feedback before the report is
finalised.
This report is a technical report relating to marina structures and public benefit of a marina to the Christchurch
economy.
The Council will take time to give consideration to the proposals in the report and to discuss with those responsible
for the Marina whether there is potential for some form of joint venture involving the owners and the Christchurch City
Council in respect of the public facilities.
It is probable that a first report will be submitted to the Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee in April and,
depending on Council decisions following that, further work will be necessary relating to what relationships can be
established with those currently responsible for the Marina.
The Christchurch City Council is not an owner of the Lyttelton Marina and that Company is currently in receivership.
There are many complex issues that will need to be resolved before any final decision can be taken about Christchurch
City Council’s involvement.
