Transit lets next contract to scope city transport solution
Transit New Zealand has taken the next important step towards improving traffic flows and public transport movement from the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the city.
A professional services contract has been let to a consortium of local and international consulting firms to produce a preferred scheme for improving the capacity of the motorway through St Mary’s Bay and across Victoria Park Viaduct in order to minimise traffic congestion on State Highway1 between Newmarket and the Harbour Bridge.
Another project objective is to provide the link between the North Shore Busway, and the Auckland Central Business District.
The professional services contract has been awarded to Auckland based consulting engineers, Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner, in conjunction with New York consulting firm, Parsons Brinckerhoff.
“The letting of this latest contract follows closely on the award of the professional services planning contract for the upgrading of Central Motorway (Spaghetti) Junction” says Transit Regional Manager, Wayne McDonald.
“These two projects – Central Motorway Junction and Harbour Bridge to City – form a very important part of our overall commitment to develop and implement a balanced transport system for both public and private transport in Auckland” he says.
