Manukau City Council is looking for assistance in making Manukau a ‘Smart City’.
Sir Barry Mayor of Manukau City has invited businesspeople to attend a breakfast meeting on the Knowledge Economy
Strategy for Manukau and to form an e-Manukau Reference Group on Tuesday 19 December.
Sir Barry says this group will help Manukau become a city that takes better advantage of the opportunities provided by
the information and communication revolution.
“Manukau City needs to find ways to use the rapid advances in information technology to improve our communities’
well-being and to grow our businesses. We see the e-Manukau group working on confirming and implementing the draft
Knowledge Economy Strategy that has been recently developed.”
The draft Strategy suggests a range of ways to become a Smart City, including ensuring every household has access to a
computer, promoting the use of e-commerce by Manukau businesses and improving people’s information technology skills.
Members of the reference group will be selected at the meeting and will meet regularly until the end of April 2001.
