Auckland Zoo, in association with Posties Choice, is proud to present the official Auckland Zoo stamp collection which
launches around New Zealand today – December 1.
The stamp collection will feature 5 endangered New Zealand native species – tuatara, blue duck, kiwi, kereru and kaka.
The native species are the first in a series of 4 separate stamp issues per year, each year the issues become part of a
larger stamp collection featuring Auckland Zoo animals.
Posties Choice Managing Director, Richard Wooders, says “I am really excited about the formation of the Official
Auckland Zoo Postage Stamp collection. The first issue features 5 triangular stamp designs, the use of a triangular
shape has not been utilised in New Zealand since 1943, which makes them especially collectable”.
Posties Choice New Zealand Ltd is a registered Postal Operator in New Zealand and commences retailing postal product in
New Zealand on December 1.
Auckland Zoo Director, Stephen Standley is equally pleased with the stamps, “not only are we able to focus on and
promote the beauty and fragility of native New Zealand animals to a local and international market, but Posties Choice
will be helping our promotion and funding of the Zoo through the sales of the Auckland Zoo stamps”.
The stamps and the on-going collection will prove very popular with an estimated 75,000 collectors in New Zealand and
many millions of collectors world-wide.
The stamps will be made available through hundreds of retail outlets over the next few months with the mail being posted
in Auckland’s and Wellington’s familiar blue National Mail boxes or through the 250 DX Mail exchanges nation-wide. ENDS.
