Major City Projects Begin
The first steps of two major city projects are being taken by Council in December.
Site blessing ceremonies for the Mangere Indoor Pool and the Clover Park Youth Library will both be held on Saturday 16 December. Local kaumatua will bless the sites followed by Mayor Sir Barry Curtis who will turn the first sod. Members of the publics are welcome to attend.
Site blessings are regularly sought by Council before major construction works. The traditional Maori ceremony removes any tapus and the site blessing asks that the site workers are kept safe during the works.
The Clover Park Youth Library ceremony will be held on-site at the Ferguson Oaks Reserve, Dawson Road, Otara at 9am.
The Mangere Indoor Pool ceremony will be held on-site, next to the existing Mangere Recreation Centre on Mascot Avenue, Mangere at 10.30am.
Construction on both sites will begin in January, with completion due in July/August near year.
