Road May Be Closed

Published: Tue 21 Nov 2000 12:40 AM
Because of a bad safety record the Christchurch City Council may close the end of Hawkins Road at the intersection with Marshland Road.
But before any decision is made, the Council is holding a public meeting to discuss the proposal to close the road.
The intersection of Hawkins Road, Lower Styx Road and Marshland Road has a poor safety record with nine injury and six non-injury crashed reported in the past five years.
Alterations to the intersection have been proposed to address the safety issues.
The Shirley-Papanui Community Board is seeking public views on the proposal and wants residents to attend the meeting in the Ouruhia Hall on Wednesday 29 November at 7.30pm.
