COMMUNITY BOARDS TO GET EXTRAGET EXTRA FUNDING
Auckland City Council is to recommend that the 10 Community boards get an increase in funding in next year’s budget. It
is proposed that the Community Boards discretionary funding be increased from $20,000 to $30,000 per annum.
Councillor Kay McKelvie, Chairperson of the Finance and Property Committee said that the financial impact on the overall
Council budget would be $100,000.
“Organisations in our community are finding it difficult to find funds to advance their clubs aims. All community boards
receive far more requests for funds than they have available, so in a small way we have agreed to increase the amount
the Community Board have to distribute", said Councillor McKelvie.
. "It is much better to let local communities make their own decisions as to what the community needed to spend this
money on. Local Boards are more in touch with the needs of the community and after feedback from the Community Boards I
am happy to make this recommendation”, said Councillor McKelvie.
Councillor McKelvie said that Auckland City has been working with the Community Board Chairpersons to seek their input
into the process for prioritising capital expenditure and decisions as to how Council services should be provided.
“Members of the public have opportunity to make submissions on the Annual Plan but we are working hard to ensure that we
get community input even earlier in the planning round”, said Councillor McKelvie.
