New Speakers' Corner Proposed

Published: Fri 10 Nov 2000 11:57 AM
A new Speakers' Corner in Cathedral Square will be considered by the Christchurch City Council later this month.
The Environment Committee yesterday recommended that the new area be set aside under trees not far from the earlier site nearer the Anglican Cathedral. The new site, if approved by the Council, will be to the east of the Godley Statue between two trees. No amplification will be permitted by speakers and the Council can close the area when it is needed for public events. The committee was told that the Wizard had been consulted about the change.
