Special meeting called for Rakaia Rise decision
A special meeting will be held by councillors to consider the best option for managing bulk asbestos contaminated material affecting five properties and a shared accessway in the Rakaia Rise vicinity.
After lengthy discussion at Thursday night’s council meeting councillors agreed that a special meeting would allow them to work through the complex issues before making such a significant decision.
“We understand the affected residents’ want to have the matter resolved as quickly as possible. Councillors are taking the issue very seriously and want to look at all options before determining an outcome,” says Ree Anderson, Manager Environmental Policy and Monitoring
The special meeting is planned for early November. Councillors have asked for detailed technical information on all possible options, which will be provided to them in a full report.
Five residential properties and a property comprising a shared accessway in the Rakaia Rise area have been identified as containing bulk asbestos containing material.
