Aucklanders Get Briefing On Economic Impact Of America's Cup
Aucklanders with an interest in the economic spin offs for the City from hosting the America's Cup have been invited to
a forum to hear about the value to Auckland from hosting the event. Auckland City Council's City Attractions Committee
will host the forum
"It is a chance for people to ask questions, to see just what sectors benefited from the event and to talk about our
next challenge, which is to make sure that we get even more value next time round', said Councillor Carter", Chair of
the City Attractions Committee.
"The return to Auckland was enormous and while the report highlighted the financial returns there were intangible
benefits in the form of the international media coverage that added to the perception of Auckland as a great tourist
destination both nationally and internationally", said Councillor Carter.
"Auckland City Council should get some credit for its spending at the Viaduct that has helped make the area a place
where people want to go to. It is unique for New Zealand and at least a little reminiscent of other major harbour cities
in the world', said Councillor Carter.
The briefing session is to be held at midday on Monday in the Council Chamber and will be well attended by Team New
Zealand members.
