Road To Close To Remove Trees

Published: Tue 24 Oct 2000 04:45 PM
Scarborough Road, Sumner, is to be closed for several hours on Thursday and Friday this week so that damaged trees can be removed.
The work is urgent as the trees pose a potential danger.
They can be removed with a crane only and the use of a crane means the road will have to be closed from 9.30am until 2pm each day.
The Christchurch City Council’s City Streets Unit’s Maintenance Team Leader, Richard Bailey, said the Council would normally inform residents by a letter but there is not time to do so in the emergency situation.
He said residents would have to make travel arrangements outside the hours of closure.
Five or six big macracarpa and gums trees and stumps needed to be removed for safety sake, he said.
The trees were among thousands damaged in the storm on 12 October.
Public information can be obtained by calling 372 2840 or 389 1477.
