Christchurch City Outlines Importance Of Low Income Housing To Auckland Regional Growth Forum
Councillor Carole Anderton, Christchurch City Council, Community Services Chairperson, is to give a presentation
tomorrow, (Friday 29th) to the Auckland Regional Growth Forum on the success of Christchurch's Housing for low income
people.
Councillor Anderton's presentation will show why Christchurch City Council believes that managing a modern city requires
affordable housing for people on low incomes. The second part of the presentation, given by Council Property Manager Rob
Dally will show how Christchurch City Council manages and delivers the second largest housing portfolio in New Zealand.
Councillor Carole Anderton promises to leave the Forum with some things to think about, "We're going to explain the
philosophy that Christchurch City has and why we look after our citizens. We know that modern communities need high
quality low rent properties and it is a Council's role to provide this". "Our presentation is called 'Sustainable
Housing is the Foundation of a good society' and the vision which guides our housing policy says that we 'contribute to
the community's wellbeing by ensuring safe, accessible and affordable housing is available to people on low incomes
including elderly persons, and people with disabilities'," said Carole Anderton.
