NEW BUS LANES FOR GREAT NORTH ROAD
Faster bus journeys, more reliable services and safer cycle routes are among the expected benefits of new bus/bike lane
sections, which will operate on Great North Road from next Monday, September 4
The lanes offer a priority route for bus passengers and cyclists, separating them from congestion on some of the city’s
busiest roads.
Similar schemes on Dominion Road and Mt Eden Roads have reduced bus journey times and resulted in significant patronage
increases.
City bound bus/bike lanes will operate between 7am-9am from the Pt Chevalier Shops to St Lukes Road, from the Western
Springs Interchange to Bond Street (excluding Grey Lynn shops) and from Bond Street to the Ponsonby Road Intersection.
Bus/bike lanes will also operate from 4pm-6pm for outbound buses, along the same sections of Great North Road.
Public consultation on the Great North Road bus/bike lane received strong support, with 83 per cent of submissions in
favour of the scheme.
The anticipated impact on motorists should be minimal, although Auckland City is advising motorists to look out for
changes in lane arrangements.
