Published: Thu 24 Feb 2000 03:19 PM
At 12:30, Race Director Harold Bennett told the race boats he will likely have to postpone the start for a short time to allow the wind to settle.
Bennett said he sees a building breeze on the Hauraki Gulf, but that the wind is still very shifty and not consistent over the race area yet. Scheduled start time is 13:15, the race won't be postponed before then.
At 13:00, Bennett announces he intends to postpone for a short time...no proposed start time has been given.
At 13:30, the wind has eased over the course, most weather boats are reporting less than five knots of wind. Team New Zealand has dropped its sails and Luna Rossa is bringing new sails up on deck
At 14:00, the wind is still light on the race course, most weather boats are reporting near five knots of wind. Race Director Harold Bennett is still optimistic, so we continue to wait.
At 14:45, reports from the race course indicate a light but building breeze. Most weather boats are reporting just over five knots of wind, but the direction is variable...so we are still postponed.
Stay here for updates throughout the race.
